Irregularities in footpath construction in Shimla city

Image
SHIMLA- As a result of expansion of Shimla city, and increasing traffic, the roads have become too congested to accommodate both the pedestrians and vehicles. City needs more foothpaths to ensure safety and comfort of public. HW had started writing about poor condition of existing footpaths in 2012.Authorities   attended to our complaint in 2013  and begin to maintain and repair existing f. With snail’s pace, in 2015, foothpaths were somewhat half-heartedly attended. The footpath stretching from Vidhan Sabha to Victory Tunnel was repaired and net fencing was also installed. But only a small part of the footpath was fenced with net and rest of it  was left unattended. The foothpath on circular road doesn’t have net fencing at all. Without net fencing, the gap between iron bars is unsafe, especially for children. The government is constructing new footpaths, but not showing any interest in appropriate roadside safety measures, such as strong parapets and crash...

Rash Driving in Shimla

Image
SHIMLA- On June 15, an 8-years old girl was crushed by a HRTC bus at Nadukhar village in Basantpur, Shimla. She was dragged to a distance of about 80-feet before the driver pulled over the bus. Dailies reported two buses were competing in order to fetch more passengers. This obsession for overtaking the other bus resulted in a case of high-speed tragedy or a culpable homicide. Try to imagine the body of that little girl.  Click this link to watch Rash driving. https://youtu.be/dlg53qlS5Cw Source: himachalwatcher.com

This dedicated Shimla Traffic cop deserves a round of applause

Image
This dedicated Shimla Traffic cop deserves a round of applause  SHIMLA – Although, Shimla traffic police and administration is struggling to manage over-crowding of roads, still there are a few rare policemen who are seen performing their duty with dedication. Of course, VVIP movement is the time when traffic police appears to be trying its best to keep the road clear. For example, during recent visit of India’s Vice-President and President, traffic police was more than active. We guess, the number of challans issued during this period will be higher as well. Anyway, exceptions are always there. Here is one in our traffic police. Meet  Rakesh Kumar , a Shimla traffic cop, who can be seen on duty in Shimla, most often at Victory Tunnel. His enthusiasm and efforts are clearly visible when he whirls and moves around every part of the chowk hurriedly, whistling and waving his hands swiftly to signal. Most of the time, he wears sunglasses, white gloves in hands wit...

The rise and rise of new Google CEO Sundar Pichai

Image
Many of the people who use Google’s ubiquitous Chrome browser and Android mobile software may have never heard of Sundar Pichai, named the new CEO of the search giant. He is a decidedly low-profile man with a reputation for simplicity and his ability to quietly navigate the workplace politics of his employer, Google, to make his team successful. But even so, almost everything that Pichai has touched at Google has had a big impact on the lives of people around the world – the Chrome browser, desktop products such as the Google Toolbar, Desktop Search and Gadgets, and, of course, Android, which Pichai took over when Android co-founder and CEO Andy Rubin stepped down in 2013.                   Pichai, who was born and brought up in Chennai, graduated from IIT-Kharagpur, where he did a BE in metallurgical engineering. He went on to do a Masters from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of...

Microsoft unveils Windows 10 ship date, OEM prices leak online: Is this OS ready to debut?

Image
Microsoft has officially confirmed AMD's previous   leak— the next version of the venerable Windows operating system will be available on July 29. Microsoft plans to finalize the Windows code by the end of June before shipping it to hardware vendors. That leaves scant weeks for the company to finish the code. There’s no doubt that Microsoft’s teams are working overtime — the company has been rapid-firing releases out to its beta testers every few  days  — but there are real questions as to whether the OS we receive on July 29 will be anything like “ready” for prime time. Microsoft has already stated that Windows 10 won’t be delivered like a traditional Windows operating system. Instead, the company will incorporate a software-as-a-service model that takes the old style Windows Update approach and streamlines it into a continuous cycle. Key components, like extension support for the Edge browser, won’t arrive until after the OS has shipped. Presumably, the focus these ...
